My father because he is the one who saved the whole family from poverty and the one who taught to me become a strong, kind, hard-working, determined, faithful and responsible person. And he made my pursuit of dream possible.

Most Memorable Moment:

In July 2002 when I was 17 years old, I went to Tibet with an expedition team formed of 12 members who are reporters, professors, photographers, environmentalisms, geologists, college students and etc. Tibet is an isolated island and hasn’t had its rail way transportation until 2006, the only way to get there by then was driving. You had to camp out and ate military heating food since there aren’t hotels or restaurants available in the area. The air temperature difference during day and night is 50F and you can’t take shower during the whole journey since there wasn’t lodging available and also since it’s easy to catch a cold in such a bad climate. If you catch a cold, there would be a risk of death. Our goal was to report what we have seen, collect environmental samples for lab material, and communicate our civilized culture with the local people. From my town Xi’an to Lhasa is 1740 miles and we drove and camped for 27 days. There were dangers all the way along the journey: we were camping in a valley during a rainy night and slept in a car, when we woke up the next morning, the valley was flooded including the exit to the main road; our car almost went down to the cliffs because of the bad road condition; we were short of food and water; there were rural animals outside of our car; we lost our direction and the car got stucked in the mud and couldn’t get out for hours; All these difficulties and dangers made the day I arrived in Tibet my most memorable moment. Especially when we successfully held our exhibition all over my city to show people what the mysterious Tibet is like, its culture, its people and etc, how we can protect our environment more effectively, how to get to Tibet safer and etc.

Most Embarrassing Moment:

On Aug 27th 2006, I was on United Airline plane, waiting to start the new page of my life. However when I landed in Chicago,my plane to Buffalo was canceled for uncertain boarding time. I stayed in Chicago international airport for 36 hours, sleeping in the waiting room on the bench, running around different terminals trying to be on the 1st of on the waiting list and being exhausted. I had no one to call and nothing to do. It was my first time landing overseas. What is even worse is my 3 big luggage which had all my belongs for my new life in USA were shipped to a wrong destination and I may lost all my luggage. I think that experience was very embarrassing and upsetting.

About My Family:

I was born in a very poor family in a village in China. My grandpa died when my grandma was only 40 years old and when she just gave birth to her youngest child. My grandmother brought five kids up all by herself through years of hard works, struggles and tolerances. The love for her kids and faith in the life carried my family through all those dark times. When my father was at his early 20s, he left his hometown, Guangdong, heading over north China to chase his dream and fight for the future of my family. He started his company out of nothing and for 20 years, he has been only sleeping for 3-4 hours every night and has never complained what he has suffered to his beloved family. Thanks to my hard-working and faithful family, I had the chance to come to US for MBA education and pursue my dream in US just like my father did when he was at my age.
